Social Work, hay còn gọi là Công tác Xã hội, là một ngành học khá mới mẻ đối với đa số sinh viên Việt Nam. Du học ngành công tác xã hội ở trường Adelphi University sinh viên được trang bị kiến thức khoa học căn bản, hiện đại, những kỹ năng, nghiệp vụ thành thạo để tác nghiệp. Có khả năng sử dụng công nghệ thông tin trong công việc và nghiên cứu. Bên cạnh đó, ngoại ngữ trong giao tiếp và nghiên cứu tài liệu chuyên ngành được đẩy mạnh.

Trong khóa học, sinh viên có cơ hội rèn luyện các kỹ năng cung ứng dịch vụ và làm công tác xã hội chuyên nghiệp tại các cơ sở và tổ chức xã hội; áp dụng tốt tiến trình giải quyết vấn đề cho thân thủ; có kỹ năng tốt để tổ chức, liên kết trong cộng đồng. 

2, Cơ hội nghề nghiệp
Sau khi hoàn thành khóa học, sinh viên có nhiều sự lựa chọn làm các công việc như:

  • Phát triển và đánh giá các chính sách xã hội: Xem xét liệu các chính sách đó đã và đang phù hợp với nhu cầu, với sự phát triển của xã hội hay chưa. Phân tích điểm mạnh, yếu và đưa ra hướng giải pháp triệt để.
  • Tìm ra giải đáp cho các vấn đề của cộng đồng: Phân tích khó khăn mà cộng đồng đang gặp phải, từ đó tìm ra hướng giải quyết.
  • Giúp đỡ cộng đồng trong việc tổ chức các chương trình hỗ trợ: Ví dụ như giúp đỡ các cư dân mới thành lập cộng đồng để hòa nhập dễ dàng vào cuộc sống; giúp đỡ các thành viên phát triển kỹ năng sống.
  • Cung cấp thông tin về các dịch vụ xã hội cần thiết.
  • Hỗ trợ và tư vấn cho các cá nhân trải qua khủng hoảng.
  • Nhà công tác xã hội có thể làm việc tại bệnh viện, các cơ quan phúc lợi, các trung tâm hỗ trợ, hội phụ nữ, hội đồng thành phố,….
